Russell and his wife Frances bought their house at 48 Beryl Boulevard, Pearl Beach in December 1996 as a weekend retreat from the stresses of city life. In 2011 they moved here permanently to continue enjoying the peace and community life until May 2021 when Frances’ untimely passing from brain cancer.
Russell’s career spanned 42 years as an officer in the Legislative Assembly of the Parliament of New South Wales with the last 22 years as Clerk of the House. That role involved parliamentary law, practice and procedure; parliamentary management and administration and international relations, where he was very fortunate to have such an interesting and varied career-everyday was different and rewarding.
Since 2011 Russell has been more actively involved in Progress Association and community activities having served as a Vice President (2014-20) and President (2020-22). Since 2013 Russell has also served on the Tennis and Recreation Club Committee as President, Vice President and currently Social Convener.
In respect of the Progress Association, Russell has been actively involved in fund raising through sponsorship for and conduct of raffles-co-ordination and conduct of ANZAC and Remembrance Day ceremonies over a number of years, Australia Day activities , Bingo events and Santa Claus appearances on the beach and at dinners and Carol Services.
Other community activities include membership of the Rotary Club of Woy Woy (co-ordination of “Opera in the Arboretum” after the untimely death of John Greenway) and currently the Rotary Club of Gosford City. Russell served as the Rotary Community Leader for the 14 Rotary Clubs on the Central and the Rotary District 9685 Executive Committee. He also worked since 2018 with the Raise Foundation in a mentoring role for high school students and also participated in several state, national and international Good Governance/Democracy Advisory Boards.
Russell is registered as a Justice of the Peace (JP) and happy to assist whenever he can.
He looks forward to continuing to his involvement with the Pearl Beach community.
