Bushcare is a volunteer group operating under Central Coast Council’s Environmental Volunteering Program and is included on this website for information to members and the community.
Bushcare Pearl Beach, with the support of Central Coast Council, works to maintain integrity of the flora on several agreed sites throughout Pearl Beach through a programme of eradication of weeds and plantings. Over the past few years we have made significant advances on our main sites. Each year Council provides plants for each site determined through consultation.
We meet at 9.00am on the first Saturday of every month (other than January and February because of heat and safety concerns) at a designated site for a 2-hour Working Bee, often followed by a morning tea. Tools and gloves are supplied but volunteers should bring water and sunscreen and a hat. Long trousers and long sleeves are recommended. A first aid kit is on hand.
The site is usually selected one month in advance through consultation at the end of the Working Bees. We have a very active membership drawn from an extremely wide range of interests. Members are advised one week in advance of the site of the next Working Bee through email and by the raising of the Bushcare sign on the community direction board at the corner of Pearl Beach Drive and Diamond Road. Working sessions are attended by a Council Bush Regeneration Officer or a qualified regeneration contractor.
Official Bush Regeneration Registration forms are available from the Coordinator, Stephen Parsons Tel: 02 4342 3943 or 0448 75 15 95, or message Stephen from the Contact Us page
The benefits from joining Bushcare include receipt of advice from Council of coming events such as plant identification nature walks (in Spring), early morning bird observation and botany workshops run or sponsored by Council.
African Olive
At the request of and in cooperation with Council’s Bushcare Officer and Bio-Security Officer over 9 sites of mature trees have been identified and notified to the Bio-Security Officer. Council has dealt with one mature shrub and some juvenile shrubs already and will be contacting the relevant landowners. Bushcare will inspect our designated sites in the coming months and deal with any instances on these sites.
