Australia Day, Family Fun at Pearl Beach 2021 encouraged locals, family groups and visitors to participate and enjoy.
Russell Grove, President of the Pearl Beach Progress Association reports – “For many years the Pearl Beach Progress Association has organised activities for the enjoyment of residents and visitors on Australia Day. This year was no different except for the restrictions and procedures in place as a result of COVID 19.
Not to be daunted, as always, there was an enthusiastic group of volunteers who organised a great BBQ of sausages, bacon and onions. With the generous support of Pearl Beach Real Estate meeting the cost of supplies $1,650 was raised in support of the Mingaletta Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Corporation which provides access to a range of community based activities, programs and services including health, welfare and educational programs-a great initiative worthy of our support.
Lamingtons and Watermelon, as traditional Australian treats, were also available for sale to raise funds for the Salvation Army. There was enthusiastic participation in the “Sand Art” competition together with a “Thong Throwing” and “Cooee Calling” competitions. A guessing game of how many Minties and Fantales (Australian invented) were in the large jar added an aspect of Australian culture as opposed to the usual Jellybean count (USA invented)-with the winner guessing the exact number.
It was a great morning of fun and laughter bringing enjoyment to all who participated. We owe a big thank you to all those who organised the various activities and also to those who participated in another Pearl Beach Progress Association sponsored activity”.
